Junior Data Engineer
Role Overview
As a Junior Data Engineer at Growth & Investment Agencies Ltd, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of our data pipelines and infrastructure. Working closely with data scientists and analysts, you’ll ensure that high‑quality, well‑structured data is available to power insights and strategic decision‑making across our African market engagements.
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Development: Build and maintain ETL/ELT workflows to ingest data from internal systems, APIs, and third‑party sources
Data Modeling & Transformation: Design and implement data models, schemas, and transformations to prepare datasets for analysis
Database Management: Administer relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and cloud‑native (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake) data warehouses
Data Quality & Validation: Implement automated checks, monitoring, and alerting to ensure data accuracy and completeness
Performance Optimization: Tune queries, indexes, and workflows for reliability and scalability
Documentation & Best Practices: Write clear technical documentation, data dictionaries, and coding standards
Collaboration: Partner with data scientists, analysts, and DevOps to integrate data solutions into production applications
Security & Compliance: Apply data‑security best practices, including access controls and encryption, to safeguard sensitive information
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
1–2 years of hands‑on experience in data engineering or software development
Proficiency in Python or Java for data manipulation and pipeline scripting
Experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their data services (S3, BigQuery, Redshift)
Understanding of ETL tools and frameworks (e.g., Airflow, dbt, or Talend)
Basic knowledge of data‑modeling concepts and schema design
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Skills & Attributes
Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)
Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
Knowledge of data‑streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub)
Eagerness to learn new technologies and contribute to architectural decisions
Compensation
Salary Range: USD 55,000 – 65,000 per year
